Boost your Change Mindset: 'Yes And ...'
Let's start with the adventures of the 'Fellowship of the Change Mindset': Frodo, Gandalf, Gimli, the Elf, The Nazgul and the mysterious Cleaning Guy.
Yes And ...
Suspending your judgement is the first ingredient to allow change. Idea-killers (expressions like ‘yes but…’, ‘we don’t have money’, ‘we already tried it’, …) are the main reasons why change is so hard to accomplish. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t say ‘no’ anymore, but if the goal is to generate new ideas and allow change a chance, we have to postpone our judgement at some moments. Combine this with a GiGa dream and we have the starting blocks for a successful change process. A good question to explore when you look for your GiGa dream is ‘What am I willing to struggle for?’
The 3 Minute rule
This exercise will help you double or triple the number of ideas that you’ll come up with during a meeting.
No is also okay
It may sound like a contradiction, but you need to combine saying ‘No’ with the ‘Yes, And’ skill if you really want to achieve your big dream.
A GIGA dreams consist of 3 things:
1. No limits
2. Visualize the finish line
3. Gives energy
What are you willing to struggle for?
What kind of pain you are willing to suffer to realize your dream? For 99% of human beings (and 1% are the exceptions), it’s damn hard work to realize one’s dreams.
Ideakillers have been around since the start of the world. Watch this funny movie from the cave-men using their first ideakillers.
